The 1st Anniversary of Bicultural Mama - Top 5 Posts

A year ago today I launched Bicultural Mama. Back then I didn’t know what the blog would lead to – I just knew I wanted to write and blogging provided me a forum to do so. Since then I’ve learned so much about social media, the blogger community, and writing. With the growth of the blog, it has provided many opportunities to meet great people and experience new things.

Several readers have asked what posts have ranked the highest in page views over the last year. I’ve summarized the top 5 below starting with the most read post of all time.

Jessica Alba Launches Eco-Friendly Children’s Products Line with Home Delivery Service
I had the great opportunity to attend Jessica Alba’s event promoting her new line of natural and eco-friendly baby products called The Honest Company. Ranging from diapers and wipes to toiletries for the whole family, I became a fan of her philosophy and non-toxic products. This post soared to the top because Jessica Alba shared a link to my post on her Facebook page.  She has 4.5 million Facebook fans, so needless to say I experienced a huge spike in web traffic. By the way, everyone asks what she was like. I only talked to her briefly, but she was friendly. Most of all, you could tell she prided herself in being a mom first, and acting came second.

Did You Know? 20 Mixed-Race Celebrities
People are fascinated with celebrities, and put the mixed race ethnic twist into it and people become even more interested. This was a fun post to create as I didn’t know about some of these celebrities’ roots until I researched them.

Disney Junior Premieres “Doc McStuffins” Featuring Ty Burrell from “Modern Family”
“Doc McStuffins” is a new animated Disney series that premiered on the all new 24 hour Disney Junior channel. It’s about a little girl who cares for “sick” and “injured” toys in the playhouse in her backyard. I like the fact that the main character is a person of color shown in a positive light.
My little one has been watching this show and gets excited when it comes on. She sings the song that they play on every episode and even pretends she’s a doctor with her own dolls!

The Symbolism Behind Chinese New Year Foods
I wrote this post for Chinese New Year this year. I always knew Chinese food held deep symbolism and wanted to write it all down  in one place. It’s a good reference piece and a reminder about how much food plays a part in certain cultures.

World Trade Center Observation Deck Photos Two Weeks Before 9/11
Back in August 2001 a friend and I visited the observation deck of the World Trade Center. Little did we know that two weeks later the world would change. I am grateful that I was a shutterbug and took a bunch of photos while there. I posted this for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Thank you to my family, friends, and readers who have kept up with the site over the last year. I couldn’t have grown Bicultural Mama without you, and for that, I am deeply grateful!
