When I attended the BlogHer12 conference in New York City earlier this month, I visited
the Hillshire Farm booth in the Expo center. Hillshire Farm created this
impressive set up where conference participants could have chefs create meals
of their choice right away. I tried it out and within minutes I was eating a
delicious mini meal made with Hillshire Farm sausage.
Growing up in a Chinese household, we did not eat Polska (Polish)
Kielbasa or deli meats. The only sausage we ate was Chinese sausage and if we
had a sandwich it was made with Chinese barbeque pork. I never bought Hillshire
Farm products until I was an adult – specifically, after I had a baby.
As new moms know, once you have a baby your free time is
zero. Cooking was another chore to add to the never ending list, so I looked
for short cuts. I bought Hillshire Farm sausage because I had a coupon and
these sausages were pre-cooked (i.e. time-saver).
I found a recipe on the internet called “Sausage and
Peppers.” I used Hillshire Farm Polska Kielbasa in the dish. When hubby got
home I proudly told him I had made an “American” meal (which to me was any meal
that I did not grow up with). Hubby kindly pointed out that it wasn’t really
“American” since I was using "Polish" sausage and that “Sausage and Peppers” was
a traditional Italian recipe (which by the way requires Italian Sweet Sausage,
not Polska Kielbasa). In other words, I ended up with a fusion dish (hey, America a
melting pot so this fits). Hubby ate all the Polska Kielbasa and admitted
it was tasty.
Now for the good stuff…
