Family-to-Family is an organization offering a hands-on approach to match donors one-to-one with a family in need. It’s not about sending a check and wondering where that money goes to. It’s about putting a box of goods – food, toiletries and other necessities – directly into the hands of another family who needs help.
Donor families can send food boxes where each month they pack a box filled with a week’s worth of non-perishable dinner-type foods (and include a non-food essential), seal it with a letter to their sponsored family, and bring it to their local chapter chairperson’s home. Families are matched whenever possible by the number and ages of children. The best part is that there are no middle men and minimal administrative costs so you can feel confident your donation is directly helping others.
There’s also a Cyber-Sponsorship opportunity where donor families can spend $36 a month for Family-to-Family to purchase groceries locally for “their” specific family. A shared sponsorship for $18 is available as well.
Family-to-Family offers a great Calendar of Giving, a monthly guide that show how donor families can use what they already have in their homes to give to those in need. For more information on each month’s recommendations, please see my post on MOMentum Nation: Teach Kids toGive Year Round with Family-to-Family.
