I love to travel, and prior to having kids I traveled the world hitting six continents (no Antarctica yet). During these travels I’ve seen the good and bad when it comes to the public and flight attendants. When all goes well, the customers and flight attendants are mutually respectful of one other. But when things get ugly, they often escalate quickly. It could be the belligerent, drunk flyer who verbally or physically threatens a flight attendant. Or on the other side, the flight attendant who’s rude and apathetic.
No matter who’s at fault, in general it’s helpful to show respect to flight attendants and the jobs they do. I’ve found that offering basic kindness to flight attendants results in them helping you out more or just returning that kindness like for example, with an extra package of cookies. I don’t envy their jobs. Any job that involves working with the public means dealing with a wide range of personalities, and many people are just downright jerks. So show some love to the people working on your plane. After all, they’re the ones who will save you if things go wrong on the flight.
The infographic below provides helpful tips on the things you should never say to a flight attendant. Some of these are just common sense, but obviously they’re listed here because they’re still a problem. Let us know in the comments what you think, and if you have personal experiences with others doing one of these things on a plane!
