There’s a reason why so many have “Go on a road trip across America” jotted on their travel bucket list. Whether or not you’re already from the US, it gives you the opportunity to see lots of new places in one trip. It’s also far more inexpensive than other vacations, too. Planning on setting this up? Here are a few things to consider.
First things first, you will want to plan the route you’re going to take. There are lots of routes across the US such as the famous Route 66 (between Chicago and Los Angeles), Pacific Coast (between Olympic National Park and Los Angeles), Border to Border (between the Canadian Rockies and the Sonoran Desert), and much more. Alternatively, you could plan your own route. It all depends on the states, attractions, terrain, and weather you most want to experience. Since every US state is very different, your entire trip will change massively depending on the route you pick.
Once you have decided on a route and know the states you’ll be visiting, you can look at the different attractions available. Whether it’s the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty or Disney World Orlando, work out which places and attractions you most want to visit so you can book tickets and arrange your trip around these things. It doesn’t have to be all huge things either. A walk in the park, a picnic on the beach, a stroll around museums. Find out what’s available and then decide what you most want to do.
Where To Stay
When you’re planning a road trip across the US, you have a couple of options when it comes to accommodations. First, if you rent an RV, you essentially get a vehicle and somewhere to sleep in one. This can be handy as you can go to campsites which offer full RV hookups. If you’re in the middle of nowhere, you can also park on the side of the road (providing it’s a safe and legal location) and sleep there instead. Your second option would be to drive a regular car. This will be cheaper on fuel but be sure it’s safe and capable of doing long distances. Companies like PartsEngine are useful for third party safety features which can be added to your vehicle for peace of mind. If you do choose to go by car, you will need to plan where you will be sleeping. You could sign up for a chain of hostels, allowing you to stay at any of them around the US. You could use motels and hotels, although you may need to book these ahead to ensure there’s a vacancy. It would also mean planning your route around your stays which could be a problem if you get lost or want more freedom.
What To Eat
America is known for its fantastic food, so this is probably one road trip you won’t want to go on if you’re dieting! You could research restaurants in the areas you are going to be visiting. For day to day meals you could utilize buffet breakfasts and lunches, cafes, and inexpensive chain restaurants. You could also stock up at grocery stores and have a cooler in your vehicle with easy-to-eat snacks to keep you going during the day. Make sure you budget for food and stick to it as this can quickly add up, especially when you’re eating out a lot.
