Does your son or daughter show a flair for writing? Now they can foster their creative minds by entering the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a national initiative to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on interactive learning.

The contest is open to children grades K-3 for submitting original stories and illustrations to their local stations who will then choose winners and award prizes. These selected few will then elevate to the national contest where a panel of judges will choose final winners.  The Contest will announce the national winners in summer 2012, and those chosen will receive prizes such as tablets, e-readers, and MP3 players.

Kids can enter online through a tool developed by new sponsor StudentPublishing.com.  The Contest will send a free animated digital book of their story to each participant who uses the tool. Children can easily share their digital books with friends and family, and parents can even purchase bound copies as a keepsake.

Winners within each Contest category will be highlighted on PBSKIDS.org/writerscontest. The interactive site will also allow visitors to create “Story Mashups” with winning stories.
