Disclosure: I received tickets to review The Wiggles tour. All opinions are my own.
This fall The Wiggles are touring the U.S. and Canada and getting kids to wiggle to their favorite tunes. Recently we attended the New York show of The Wiggle Town Tour. My children are huge fans of the Australian-based group that has entertained kids around the world for 25 years. There’s just something about The Wiggles — with their brightly-colored costumes, dancing, and songs — that children love.
The Wiggles bring high-energy performances to the stage in their 2016 tour. Kids love the live show because it’s so engaging and fun. Anthony (Blue), Emma (Yellow), Lachlan (Purple) and Simon (Red) sing favorites such as Hot Potato, Big Red Car, Do the Propeller, Simon Says, Fruit Salad, and more.
The Wiggles encourage kids to sing along and dance. Kids danced in their seats and in the aisles. My eldest daughter was on her feet, following the dance moves and calling out the name of her favorite Wiggle (Emma!). My younger one, speaking in toddler-ease, shouted “Wiggle!” during the performances, and “Wake up, Lachey!” whenever Lachey pretended to be asleep (it’s a running theme on the show).
During the concert The Wiggles always interact with the audience. Fans love it, and it’s obvious many have attended past concerts because they came prepared with props and gifts.
At some point during the show The Wiggles collect items from the audience. They literally comb the rows while wearing a large sack bag to store everything their fans bring. At the show I attended, Lachey remained on the stage with Henry the Octopus to keep the entertainment going while this was taking place. Simon, Anthony, Emma, and Captain Feathersword collected the items and even read fans’ posters in a singing voice.
Tips for Attending The Wiggles Tour
- Bring a Bone – When Wags the Dog performs, people wave the bones they brought. Some are plush toys or drawings of bones, while others are the real thing.
- Bring a Rose – Dorothy the Dinosaur loves roses and fans bring both real bouquets and silk flowers.
- Bring a Bow – Emma loves her bows, so take along your biggest, fanciest one for her.
- The show lasts for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes – an ideal length for the attention span of little ones. The show started about 5 minutes after the set show time, so make sure to arrive on time.
